Wellness at Work: 3 Ways to Create Calm in Your Workday
Kathryn Pol | NOV 5, 2025
In today’s fast-paced world, it’s easy for our workdays to feel like a constant rush from one task to the next. Sometimes this can come with a sense of lack or a feeling that what you are doing just isn’t enough. Pushing us to do more.
My background includes 28 years in procurement for the hospitality industry. My daily responsibilities included multiple projects, multiple deadlines, multiple vendors, and millions of dollars. Between meetings, conference calls, deadlines, and notifications, a sense of calm just felt out of reach. I felt like I needed to do more just to stay on top of it all. However even in the middle of the busiest day, we can create moments of peace that help us refocus, recharge, and reconnect with ourselves. This creates personal empowerment and for companies, a more empowered workforce fostering productivity and engagement.
Here are three simple ways to bring a sense of calm into your workday — no special tools or extra time required.
Before logging into your computer or checking your email, take one mindful breath. Notice how you feel and set a quiet intention for your day. Maybe it’s “I move through today with ease,” or “I approach challenges with calm.” Set the trajectory for your day….You are in control: “You are the light you want to see.”
This small act of presence helps shift you from Reaction to Response — grounding your mind before the day begins.
Instead of rushing from one thing to the next, try taking a 30-second reset between tasks. Roll your shoulders, unclench your jaw, or simply close your eyes for a few breaths. These mini- intentional pauses help your nervous system settle, allowing your energy to stay steady throughout the day: “There is no rush.”
When a stress trigger arises — an email, a difficult conversation, or an unexpected demand:
* Pause and take a slow, deep breath……..Inhale “Calm”. Exhale “Tension”.
This single breath creates space between the stressor and your response, inviting more clarity and compassion into your interactions.
Creating calm at work isn’t about escaping your responsibilities — it’s about approaching them from a centered empowered place. The practice is all about consistency, and over time, these simple mindfulness practices can transform not only your workday but your overall well-being.
✨ At New Lotus Collective, we believe calm is a skill that is available to all of us and can be cultivated — “One breath, one pause, one mindful moment at a time.”
